Fall 2016

Fencing

Fee: $100.00 per term

This course meets twice weekly for a one-hour class; it is a combined session welcoming mixed ages and skill levels, and is appropriate for beginning fencers through advanced fencers. Both our coaches Josh and Dylan will teach together, providing the opportunity for them to work with groups of different abilities when appropriate. The emphasis will be on core skill development (e.g. footwork, form, movement coordination), and will incorporate techniques of classical fencing, with foil as the logical starting point for beginning fencers. Students will refine their classical foil techniques and develop a variety of increasingly complex footwork and hand actions, with regular sparring and bouting. Basic equipment is provided without additional cost.

Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:45 – 6:45 p.m.

Fencing continuation, Foil and Epee

Fee: $30 per term

This class is a continuation of the earlier one-hour fencing class. Fencers with some experience may continue into the second hour, which is less structured. The class includes instruction in both foil and epee, with frequent sparring and bouting. Fencers receive individual attention to learn and practice progressively more advanced hand and footwork techniques, with emphasis on moderate physical conditioning and modern electric competition skills and strategy. Intermediate and competitive students should have or be acquiring their own equipment and normally would plan to participate in local and regional tournaments.

Monday and Wednesday, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Drop In Fencing Sessions

Fee: $30 per term or $5.00 per session (floor fee, paid to the coach)

Experienced fencers who wish to join us for sparring only will be welcome during the second hour of classes on Monday and Wednesday (Fencing Continuation). Visitors who are USFA members may join us on a per-session basis upon approval of the coach.

Mondays and Wednesdays, 6:45 – 7:45 p.m.

Competitive Foil (electric)

Fee: $120 per term

This class is designed for fencers with basic to intermediate skill in foil fencing who are interested in modern electric fencing. Fencers receive individual attention to learn and practice progressively more advanced hand and footwork techniques, with emphasis on moderate physical conditioning and modern electric competition skills and strategy.
Participants should have or be acquiring their own equipment and normally would plan to participate in local and regional tournaments.

Thursdays and Fridays, 5:45 – 7:45 p.m.
